THE POTBANK DICTIONARY

Glossary of words used in the Pottery Industry.  Woolliscroft's Potbank Dictionary lists those wonderful words, such as blunger, saggar, jomuk, and putterup-duck that were common in the pottery industry. Some words are specific to a particular factory, others are more general. Some are technical, some are Potteries special dialect. A lot are gradually being lost from use. But all are fascinating! This is not an academic work. In fact, in places, its rather quirky.  here>

THE GLADSTONE STORY

The story of Gladstone Working Pottery Museum officially opened on 24 April 1975 by the Duke of Gloucester. From a crumbling and derelict shell of a potbank to an internationally renowned and unique museum of the Stoke-on-Trent Pottery Industry. Four coal fired bottle ovens still stand in the potbank yard. Steam engine, sliphouse, galleries of sanitaryware, tiles and pottery colour, workshops and of course the potters themselves   here>
